Jennica M. Janssen, Ph.D. was born in Redwood City, California, and graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles, with a Bachelor of Sciences degree in Psychobiology. Before moving to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, for her J.D./Ph.D. Program in Law and Psychology, Jennica completed a Master of Sciences in Clinical Psychology with a specialty in Marriage and Family Therapy. She worked as a therapist in an intensive outpatient program in a hospital setting, a mental health diversion court, and in an outpatient clinic, assisting adolescents struggling with substance abuse.
During law school, Jennica was the Managing Editor of the Drexel Law Review, Cali Award recipient, Public Interest Experience award recipient, co-founder of the Dean’s Cup, Dean’s Scholar for Torts and Constitutional Law, volunteered as a peer mentor and youth basketball coach, and served on the executive board of three organizations. While completing her doctoral studies, she also worked as a legal intern at the Juvenile Law Center and the Defender Association of Philadelphia. Jennica has presented at several conferences nationally and has published works in social science and law review journals. Her legal, clinical, and research interests include collateral consequences for justice-involved youth, online dating violence, juvenile and adult forensic psychology, neuropsychological assessment, and medical malpractice.
She graduated from Drexel University’s Thomas R. Kline School of Law in May 2019 and relocated to Southern California to complete her Clinical Psychology Ph.D. internship before being admitted to practice law in the State of California in 2020. Jennica completed her Clinical Psychology Ph.D. in the Spring 2021 with a concentration in Forensics.
As a former collegiate athlete, Jennica enjoys playing and watching sports, teaching and practicing martial arts, as well as traveling internationally for friendly athletic competitions, cultural immersion, and outdoor adventure experiences, including scuba diving, motorcycling, rock climbing, and backpacking. Jennica resides in Long Beach, California, where enjoys cooking, stand-up paddle boarding, attending concerts, hiking, and volunteering at the LGBTQ Center and a local non-profit animal rescue, Feline Good Social Club.
